WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK...

I’m always writing out this long rants on Instagram about what we did this week, what things I switched, what I’m currently working on, searching for; what our plans are for a space and so on. Part of me worries no one probably cares, but the other part of me thinks why not make it a blog post and blurt all my thoughts out there for people who DO want to read it? So here goes our very first WEEKLY ROUNDUP.

If you’re a frequent visitor, you know that we recently purchased our Dream Dressers and our old mirrors no longer worked in the space. I was planning on keeping them here until we found new ones but I couldn’t take it any longer and decided to throw some art work we had here instead. It’s not perfect, but it’s much better. Bobby’s side is currently bare and very boring (which is bothering me a lot and not bothering him in the slightest). The goal here is to still find some brassy / vintage mirrors or artwork.. I know if I keep checking I’ll find something, probably while searching for something else..

BOBBY’S “MICHAEL SCOTT BED”

We got a bed bench! And no not to force Bobby to sleep on (if you haven’t seen The Office episode dinner party do yourself a favor). I didn’t know I could love a bench so much. It is stunning and I swear somehow more beautiful in person. I was however feeling a little overwhelmed with oranges so I decided to switch things up a little.

GOING GREEN

I immediately loved the contrast in the bench of cool and warm colors and decided to play off of it. I think by adding in the dark green pillows and throw, the bench is more complimented but is now allowed to be the focal point. Whereas before, you’re eye was kind of struggling between all 3 oranges.

Also, as much as I ADORE our curtains, I got them on a going out / clearance sale (how I buy most of my anthro purchases) and there were only two available when I purchased. I decided to just allow the wall behind the bed to be bare and only have them off to the side window, but secretly really missed having some framed behind our bed. In conclusion: I think I’m going to search for some new curtains for this room; maybe velvety dark green, maybe neutral.. but I’m thinking thick and luxurious to really make an impact behind the headboard.

I’ve also had this strong yearning to paint the trim black as well in here, but I’m scared. 1. I hate painting trim. 2. If I don’t like it, I’ll have to paint it back.

NURSERY UPDATE

One of baby girl’s rugs arrived this week and it is beautiful! The crib and ceiling fan pop even more than they did previously. We ordered some curtains specifically for her room but I ended up not liking them (they were pretty, just more copper than gold as described) and in an unexpected turn of events, realized the orange ones from our master actually worked really well with the rug and the sample paint colors we had up. It’s not a finalized decision, but I do really like where the vibe is headed and it’ll save us money!

We’re still eyeing the samples we have up and trying to draw a conclusion if we’re even going to paint. I’m leaning towards yes but Bobby really likes the color it is now, so if we keep it I will at minimum be painting the trim and doors to match.

FUN TIP:

If you’re sampling paint colors, buy poster board and put the samples on it. It keeps your walls clean and you can move it around in different lighting to get a more accurate feel for the color!

THRIFT FIND:

Our latest find while thrifting was this amazing little chair for less than $30. I originally had it in the corner of our master but we honestly do need a desk chair so I’ve been moving it back and forth trying to decide. We also added a curtain to this wall and it immediately feels so much cozier. The texture on texture is giving me major Pierce and Ward vibes and I LOVE IT. Oh, and that gorgeous curtain rod? Amazon! My heart is dead set on finding a vintage red rug for our office nook, so I’m officially on the look out for an affordable one.

OUR LAST SIGN

In other monumental news, I decided to take down the last sign that was hanging in the house this week. I’ve been slowly transitioning out of what I call “obvious farmhouse” look for a while now. Don’t get me wrong: our house plan is literally called a country colonial and we’re on 5 acres in rural Virginia so it’s roots are still very much in that, but I don’t necessarily think you need signs screaming farmhouse in order to have one. We’re just leaning more towards a bohemian, modern, classic twist on it and it’s been really refreshing and fun to explore.

I’ve also been trying to replace my “big store” purchases with thrift finds and one of a kind items and it really is making a big difference in the overall feel of the house and saves a lot of money! These amazing glasses were my grandmothers and I found this awesome frame for $2.

That’s all the updates I have for now! Bob and I are super excited because we have a staycation next week and are planning on getting a lot done around here. If you enjoyed this, let me know and I’ll try to make it a regular!
