Yes, that’s what I’m calling our theme this year and I am loving it. Our first Christmas with a baby has been magical and difficult. All the good stuff has 100 times more meaning than it ever did before, and all of the decorating stuff became 100 times harder. Things I used to knock out now take extra time and there are a lot of necessary breaks in between, but I think the slowness actually created great intention in the choices I made this year and I am pleasantly surprised with how things turned out.

DIY POM POMS

I made pom poms for what felt like hours on end. Despite being a creative, I would not describe myself as “crafty” so this was a pleasant surprise. It was very easy, a little tedious and time consuming but worth it and I would do it again. I initially decided on pom poms when Anthropologie put out ornaments this year and used tons in their store holiday displays. Their ornaments however were $28 for 3 and I couldn’t justify that. I think I bought around $30 worth of yarn and made over 30 between our downstairs and Vivi’s room. I was able to pull custom colors like the mustard in our curtains, deep purples and pops of orange and corals. I really loved our tree last year, but I think this one is officially my favorite yet.

BANISTER GARLAND

Yes, more pom poms - but also a very cheap $5 garland intertwined with a eucalyptus one! I love using non traditional garland and making them seasonal.

GRAPEFRUIT TREE

Our other tree could not be more opposite of other. We kept this one simple, natural; with just our DIY DRIED GRAPEFRUIT ORNAMENTS, some eucalyptus and lights. It’s simplistic but also a nice pop of color flowing with the rest of the room. A few bottle brush trees to match on our sofa table, a wreath I technically never finished (there was supposed to be things added..) and a blanket used as a tree skirt.

SHELVING

I try to keep the shelving a lot of the same things that are here all year and just add to it. Putting snowy stems in our existing vases, some trees, a few knick knacks and of course our stockings. I added a little grapefruit here too and I love the way it looks next to it.

We also continued with the grapefruit in our kitchen garland..

WINDOW GARLAND:

For this I just bought a cheap $5 garland from Hobby Lobby, a few pine and eucalyptus stems and added them to it to create a fuller more realistic looking one for a fraction of the price. Adding in a few snowy pine-cones, grapefruit and some twinkle lights and done!

VIV’S ROOM

Last year I decorated our bedroom, but this year I was way more excited for hers. We found the sweetest little gold tinsel tree for her room (linked here) wrapped in in lights and gold beads (linked here) and made a bunch more pom poms.

Her gold tinsel wreaths were also from Target but I added the cluster of pom poms myself.
